Katy Schimert

In the Studio, Joan Mitchell Center

Introduction

At the Joan Mitchell Center, I made a series of drawings derived from images of antiquity that expressing fragmentation of the body referencing internal maps of the body and clothing patterns. I also experimented with making larger drawings that became part of assemblage sculptures. I collected parts of trees and elements of the landscape and integrated my drawings into the tree elements setting up narratives about violence against women, war and refuge.
